Alexander Zverev opens up on his match against Taylor Fritz in the semi-finals of the ATP World Tour finals and discusses where the American got the better of him. The German number one said that his levels were higher than Fritz in most parts of the game, but failed in the crucial moments.
The ATP World Tour Finals has ended with World number 1 Jannik Sinner getting his hands on another title this season. However, the other favorite in the tournament was also World number 2 Alexander Zverev who was also having an unbeaten run until his loss to Taylor Fritz in the semi-finals. This was a thrilling game but it might have been slightly disappointing for Zverev who was going after his third ATP Finals title.
Zverev speaks on his loss to Taylor Fritz
This is time to talk about Zverev and his battles with Taylor Fritz who has now beaten him four times in a row this season and Zverev and has also opened up on his loss against the American in a thrilling 3-set match. The German star opened up on the loss saying, "I thought I played at a decent level and I had more chances generally in the third set. I felt like statistically and shot-wise, my level maybe was even higher than his until the important moments. That’s where I kind of blew it."
There will be some people who might not take this statement very well since even after the loss Zverev thought that he was playing much better tennis than Fritz except for the crucial moments. However, Zverev did have his chances in the match where he could have won the game and made it to the finals. It seems as though he still can't accept that Fritz was the better player on the day and deservingly reached the finals.
