Elina Svitolina opens up on how Gael Monfils’ motivation fuels her journey to storm into Rouen Open 2025 final

Tennis star Elina Svitolina has revealed how her husband, Gael Monfils, has motivated her to perform well in the ongoing Rouen Open 2025. The Ukraine star is just now one win away from winning this WTA 250 tournament. The star player will be looking to win this title to bolster the preparation for the French Open, setting the stage to kick off on May 25.

The 30-year-old star player was last seen in action in the Miami Open 2025, but she crashed out in pre-quarters against world number two Iga Swiatek. After that, she defeated Anhelina Kalinina and Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in the pre-quarters and quarters before toppling Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the semi-final to make it to the final showdown.

After the semi-final win, Svitolina revealed that her husband and legendary player Gael Monfils had promised her to be present in the stands if she stormed into the final in Rouen. She revealed that Monfils's presence would be her biggest motivation, as he will be coming to support her in the final.

"A big motivation for me was when Gael told me at the start of the tournament that he would come to the final if I reached the final. So he’ll probably come to support me tomorrow," Elina Svitolina said after the win.

Tennis power couple Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils tied the knot on July 16, 2021. They welcomed a girl named Skai Monfils a year later. Gael Monfils shared a heartfelt and touching message for his daughter and wife on his 38th birthday and felt extremely grateful for their presence in his life.
