Coco Gauff won the Wuhan Open 2025 by beating her friend and mentor, Jessica Pegula, in the final. The youngster overcame her fellow countrywoman 6-4, 7-5 in the straight sets in their first-ever faceoff in a final. In the process, Gauff extended her unbeaten streak in the WTA Hard Court finals.

It was a good final, as both players played a solid game throughout the match. However, Coco sealed the big moments and was able to close out games when it seemed like the momentum would go away from her. In both sets, Gauff controlled the pace and was able to crunch games.

In the first set, the first few games were even Stevens. What followed was Coco's game sense, which helped her to clinch the first set 6-4. There was even more competition in the second set, as both the players threw everything they had. Eventually, Gauff won it too by 7-5 to claim the title.

In the post-match talk, Gauff was all praises for Pegula. The star player regarded her opponent to be the one who was nice and welcomed her with open arms early in her career. She was happy to be able to face Pegula in a final for the first time in her career and hoped for many such matches.

"When I came on tour, you were one of the first people to be nice to me and welcome me with open arms. That really went a long way, so I appreciate you. It’s great to finally play in the final against you, and I hope for many more. So, congratulations and thank you," Gauff said.
