Coco Gauff, Madison Keys, and Jessica Pegula reacted to Eugenie Bouchard's decision to retire from Tennis and focus on Pickleball. Ahead of the Canadian Open 2025, which will be Bouchard's last Tennis tournament, the triop gave their opinion on her. The 31-year-old overcame Emiliana Arango by 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 in the first round to stay alive in the tournament.

Madison Keys, who grew up with Bouchard, was happy to see the star player evolve over the years and noted some of her major accomplishments like reaching the Grand Slams finals, attaining a great career high WTA ranking, and so on. She felt Bouchard is an authentic person unlike a few who try to stay in the spotlight.

"We grew up together in juniors, so I’ve known Genie for a very long time and played against her when we were young. It’s always special to grow up with someone and watch each other move up in the rankings. She’s had a phenomenal career and accomplished some great things, including Grand Slam finals—two I think—and reaching the top five. Or maybe a final and a semi-final," said Keys.

"I think Genie is just herself, and I think it comes across. Everything she says and does feels authentic. People have always gravitated towards that. We like to see authentic people in the spotlight. Sometimes everything is too scripted, and I feel like she never fell into that," Keys added in her statement.

Coco Gauff claimed that she was not aware of it till about a few days before the Canadian Open 2025. The emerging star noted Bouchard's record in Grand Slams and her desire to switch to Pickleball. Guaff accepted that she did not know Bouchard in person but felt the Canadian will be fine and wished her the best for her future endeavors.

"I didn’t know that was happening until a couple of days ago. But obviously she had a great career early on and had a great couple of results in some slams. It’s definitely not easy, but I know she is also playing pickleball too, so she is spread across. I think she will be fine. I don’t know her that well personally, but I wish her all the best in the next chapter for her," Gauff said.

Jessica Pegula, who shares the same agent as Bouchard, noted that her long time friend is content with her decision to retire. Pegula claimed the 31-year-old to be an iconic player on the tour and always worked hard to be at her best. She wished a great week for the Canadian, whose friends and family will be in attendance for her final Tennis tournament.

"We share the same agent, so I have known her for such a long time, and I got to hang out with her a little bit in DC because she was doing some work there, and we did some sponsor stuff together. She seems really content with being able to retire here. She just said it wasn’t worth it in the end with a lot of injuries," Pegula said.

"But I think she is honestly kind of an iconic player for the Tour, and what she was able to bring, and I have always really got along with her, and I thought she has always worked really hard. I know she has a lot of friends and family here so I am sure it will be a special week for her," Pegula added.
