During the media interaction, Alcaraz was asked who should be considered the favourite in the final, given that he is the top-ranked player in the world, while Sinner has been dominant on indoor surfaces throughout the season.
In reply, Alcaraz said: “Who is the favourite (smiling)? I mean, the No. 1 means that I've been playing really good during the whole season, in the whole surfaces. He's playing the best on indoor court. We're playing in front of his home crowd. I would say he's the favourite. Don't want to believe it, but I would say he's the favourite for tomorrow I guess (smiling).”
Carlos Alcaraz defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime in the semi-final
He further explained that winning the title itself would hold greater meaning than simply beating Sinner. "Coming here, playing a good tennis, and be able to lift the trophy at the end of the week would mean a lot to me, even more [than] winning [against] Jannik," he said. "Being in the same list as [Manuel] Orantes and [Alex] Corretja, to be the Spaniard to win this tournament. Putting my name next to them would be great."
In the semi-finals, Alcaraz defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-2, 6-4 in straight sets. Sinner also impressed in his semi-final, beating Alex de Minaur 7-5, 6-2.
