Swapnil Kusale's father seemed to be unhappy with the prize money and other gifts given by the Maharashtra government. Suresh Kusale compared the prize money obtained by the Haryana athletes and claimed that the Maharashtra government needed to increase it. He demanded prize money of INR 5 crores, a flat near Balewadi Sports Complex, and a rifle shooting arena named after him soon.
Suresh Kusale claimed that the Haryana government announced INR 6 crores to the gold medalist, INR 4 crores to the silver medalist, and INR 2.5 crores for the Bronze medalist. He compared it with the prize money given by the Maharashtra government (INR 5, 3, and 2 crores for Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medalists) and felt it to be less for a history maker.
He said Swapnil Kusale was the first Maharashtra athlete since KD Jadhav in 1952 to win an Individual Olympic medal. Suresh said that if he had been aware of the lesser pay from the Maharashtra government, he would have persuaded his son to pursue a career in a different sport.
'Swapnil's name should be given to the 50-meter-three-position rifle shooting arena' - Suresh Kusale
Suresh questioned the government if their motive for the low prize money was because Swapnil belonged to a humble background. He asked the officials if the reward money would have been the same if he/she was the son of an MLA or a minister.
He then made a huge demand against the Maharashtra government. Suresh asked the government to give his son a cash prize of INR 5 crores, a flat near the Balewadi Sports Stadium, and a rifle shooting arena to be named after him. The insane demand from Kusale's father has gone viral on social media.
"Swapnil should get Rs 5 crore as an award, a flat near Balewadi Sports Stadium so that he could easily commute for practice. Swapnil's name should be given to the 50-meter-three-position rifle shooting arena," said Suresh Kusale. The fans said it was an unreal demand considering that Swapnil only bagged a Bronze medal.
