Joe Hendry made an appearance in the ring to provide a concert on the August 27 edition of WWE NXT. Before their encounter at NXT No Mercy, he made fun of Ethan Page and sang a song about him.

TNA star Joe Hendry performed a very special concert as the NXT program came to a finish. During the show, he paid tribute to NXT Champion Ethan Page. Hendry didn't only compose a song, though; in addition to his trolling, he displayed a variety of images and videos of Page, including ones that showed off his costume collection and toy collection. When Hendry got the audience to sing along to the chorus, Page intervened to end the show.

However, NXT General Manager Ava Raine interrupted to say that Ethan Page's match at No Mercy would have a special referee because of his actions the previous week, who turned out to be Page's archenemy Trick Williams. At that moment, Ava Raine emerged and spoke to Ethan. She said he ought to feel honored that Hendry composed a song of such significance.

After that, she claimed to have resolved a few issues and disclosed that Trick Williams would be the special guest referee for his title defense at No Mercy. Giving fans a preview of what may occur on Sunday, Hendry gave Page a standing ovation and convinced Williams to give him the three count as Williams emerged in full referee costume.

Joe had gone up to Williams earlier in the evening and informed him that Trick would get the first crack at the title if he defeated Page at No Mercy. Cameras moved to Pete Dunne as Hendry and Williams were in the ring, and he said he didn't think Williams would make it to their match on the 9/3 NXT.
