Wout Weghorst, the former striker for Manchester United, walked out from a Netherlands practice session following an altercation with Jurrien Timber, the defence for Arsenal. Weghorst and Timber, who appeared off the bench in the Netherlands' 5-2 victory against Bosnia and Herzegovina during the UEFA Nations League, were part of a training session led by head coach Ronald Koeman for the reserve and substitutes.

The Arsenal player, according to ESPN, was incensed with his international teammate after making a late challenge that Weghorst believed should have resulted in a foul. Eventually, the Ajax forward flung his shirt to the ground and removed it, then he left the session.

The former Manchester United striker needed Ronald Koeman to intervene and try to calm him down. According to Dutch publication AD, he yelled, "And now it's done!" to put an end to Weghorst's complaints. Despite having 40 caps for his nation, Weghorst hasn't played longer than 45 minutes during a competitive game since a little over a year ago in a Euro 2024 qualifier versus the Republic of Ireland. After rupturing his ACL during the beginning of his first campaign at Arsenal last year, Timber has made his way back into the Dutch team.

Next up for the Netherlands in their UEFA Nations League campaign is a match against Germany on Tuesday. Following the incident on the training pitch, Weghorst and Timber's involvement is uncertain.

Ronald Koeman’s off-field issues with Steven Bergwijn

Some of the emotions that have been surrounding the Netherlands team in recent days are reflected in the incident. The manager looks to need some counselling to mend the relationship among Weghorst and Timber after openly criticising Steven Bergwijn for signing Al-Ittihad of the Saudi Pro League.

After Bergwijn, the 26-year-old attacker, moved for £17.7 million on Monday from Ajax to Al-Ittihad, a Saudi Pro League team, Ronald Koeman declared he would not pick the forward. The departure, according to the former Southampton and Everton manager, indicates that Bergwijn's primary goal is financial rather than sportive.
