Wojciech Szczesny has reportedly reached an agreement to extend his contract with Barcelona. According to Luis Rojo, the Polish goalkeeper has already made up his mind about his future with the club, expressing a desire to prolong his stay at Barcelona for another year. However, the club is actively searching for a permanent replacement, amidst uncertainty regarding Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s future.

Earlier, the Polish goalkeeper had called it a day in his career after mutually agreeing to end his contract with Juventus in 2024. However, he returned to the pitch in a month to help an injury-ridden Barcelona team. The Polish goalkeeper made an immediate impact for the Catalans, helping them out in their defensive duties. Following his series of good performances, the club decided to offer him a new contract until 2026. As per reports, Ter Stegen is now looking for new clubs since he no longer remains the club's first-choice goalkeeper. The German wants to cement his place for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ter Stegen's current contract at FC Barcelona runs until 2028. However, with less game time on offer under Hansi Flick, the German may move away sooner rather than later. In addition, the club is also in talks with Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, should Ter Stegen choose to leave.

Barcelona are expected to be active in this transfer window and sign a few players. The club has already renewed the contracts of Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Hansi Flick. Marcus Rashford sits as a prime target amongst the players the club wants to sign this season.
