The teenager is set to not only receive his contract extension but will also get to don the iconic number '10' jersey from the upcoming season. Describing Yamal's current season as being 'good' would be a serious understatement. The flair and the skills he brings to the pitch rank him as the best footballer for his age. Lamine worked his way to the senior team from junior ranks and received his debut under Xavi as a 15-year-old. Since then, he has transformed into a match-winner who dictates the fate of the fixture.

Lamine Yamal experienced an incredible season. He has netted 17 goals and provided 16 assists so far this season. He is also considered one of the top contenders for the Ballon d'Or next season. On the back of such strong performances, Yamal is now being touted as the heir to Lionel Messi. Messi's iconic number 10 jersey is worn by Ansu Fati at this time. He was once considered the heir to Messi but has fallen from grace due to multiple injuries and inconsistent form. Yamal currently dons the number 19 jersey.

Barcelona are also set to hand Yamal a new contract once he turns 18 to tie him down to the club on a lengthy contract. The Catalan side, led by Joan Laporta, wants to avoid any sort of funny transfer business, similar to what happened with Neymar Jr in 2017, and is hence going to add a release clause of €1 billion.
