According to sources, Benjamin Sesko turned down a move to Arsenal due to the fact he didn't want to be Kai Havertz's backup. Last summer, Sesko, among the more sought-after young strikers in the world right now, was connected to leaving RB Leipzig and joining the Premier League.
Sesko had a lot of attention from Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal, but he ultimately decided that he wanted to stay in Germany for another season. Sesko was hesitant to join Arsenal this past summer because he was worried he wouldn't play in place of Havertz. He is anticipated to leave at the end of this season.
Arsenal reportedly informed Sesko explicitly that he would not be certain of playing prior to Kai Havertz at this point in his career, reported to the Daily Mail. Sesko "seriously considered" joining the Gunners last summer, but Arsenal is still interested in him and will probably try to recruit him again after the end of the current campaign.
However, the north London team is not the only one vying for Sesko's services, Manchester United is also vying for the 21-year-old Slovenian international's services. Sesko has scored seven goals in 14 games this season, putting Leipzig in excellent shape.
“Looking forward to taking the next steps” : Benjamin Sesko
Benjamin Sesko spoke about declining an offer from the Premier League as he said, “I had a good first year at RB Leipzig and am incredibly happy to be here. Team, club, city, fans – the overall package is simply outstanding for me. The early contract extension was therefore the logical next step for me.”
The Slovenian striker added, “I feel a lot of trust and appreciation throughout the club and that is crucial for being able to perform to my full potential. In the second half of the season in particular, I was able to give something back with my goals. We have a team with great potential and a balanced mix of young and experienced players. I’m really looking forward to taking the next steps with this team”
