An independent committee is holding a hearing to investigate claims of financial misbehavior by Manchester City. If the commission finds the club guilty, the Premier League may ban the team. The Premier League has filed 115 allegations against the club, and a secret hearing is currently taking place following these claims.

If it is discovered that City has violated the regulations, a football financial specialist warned Sky News that they may lose "60, 80, or 100 points". In February 2023, Manchester City, a dominant force in English football with four straight Premier League championships, was submitted to this panel.

The allegations, covering a number of financial matters, date from 2009 to 2018. They include non-compliance with the Premier League's investigation, improper disclosure of player and manager compensation, and failure to provide accurate financial information.

The majority of these allegations are related to regulations that clubs must follow and that Manchester City is said to have broken regarding proper financial reporting. They contain information on the veracity of reports about sponsorship agreements and player and management compensation.

Allegations have also been made regarding rule violations about teams' adherence to the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules (PSR) and UEFA's Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

According to reports, the hearing may go on for at least two months, and the outcome might not be announced until the next year. However, City, owned by Sheikh Mansour, the vice president and deputy prime minister of the United Arab Emirates, might lose a lot of league points or perhaps be kicked out if proven guilty.

Manchester City has been involved in court disputes even before

Manchester City has previously been involved in court disputes over financial restrictions. Due to overstated sponsorship revenue, UEFA barred City from the Champions League for two years in 2020. However, the club successfully appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which reversed the suspension.

The case of Manchester City comes after other Premier League teams, like Everton and Nottingham Forest, who also had points taken away from them the previous season, were found guilty of financial violations in recent verdicts. Conversely, Leicester City was able to effectively evade these sanctions following their successful appeal.
