According to French media outlet L'Equipe, the organization is working on a new initiative called the Football Video Support (FVS) system. This proposed system would empower football coaches to contest refereeing decisions like the challenge mechanism used in basketball, potentially bringing a new level of fairness and engagement to the sport.

Coaches to be empowered with FVR

FIFA is actively exploring an option, as reported. They are optimistic about gaining approval from the board to further test the Football Video Support (FVS) system.

FVS presents a promising alternative to VAR, enabling coaches to challenge a referee's decision up to two times per match. This innovative system was green-lit by IFAB in March and has already undergone trials during the Under-17 and Under-20 Women’s World Cups.

What the head of FIFA Referees Committee has to say?

The head of the FIFA Referees Committee emphasized that the performance from these two competitions will be thoroughly analyzed. So far, nothing unexpected has been observed. He clarified that it is crucial in order to differentiate between the FVS and the VAR. Due to the limited number of cameras involved, the FVS cannot deliver the same insights that the VAR provides.

"The experiences in these two competitions will be carefully analysed but so far we have not noticed anything unexpected," Pierluigi Colina said. "It is however essential to understand that the FVS is not the VAR because of the small number of cameras used, the FVS will not allow to show what the VAR can show." he added.

FIFA is now tasked with presenting a report to the board to secure approval for the extension of the experiment, and several leagues have expressed a strong interest in participating. However, the details regarding which specific leagues will be involved remain undisclosed at this time.
