Manchester City defender Kyle Walker asserts that next week's showdown against Liverpool presents a crucial opportunity to bounce back following their disheartening 4-0 defeat to Tottenham. He has issued a clear warning to his teammates: they must rapidly elevate their performance levels.

Manchester City endured a brutal dismantling at the hands of Ange Postecoglou's side at the Etihad, with James Maddison scoring twice along with goals from Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson. This emphatic loss marks a fifth consecutive defeat for Pep Guardiola's squad, and it's time for them to take immediate action.

It marked the joint-heaviest home defeat of Guardiola's career and the first instance where he has lost five consecutive matches.

Walker's take after his dissapointing performance

Walker, in particular, faltered with some subpar defending after being outpaced by Timo Werner for Tottenham's fourth goal. Nevertheless, he stepped up to face the media following the defeat.

"It's hard to stand here and speak about it when I haven't properly digested it yet. I've stood here when we won titles so I'll stand here for defeats too." Walker stated.

"This is the most frustrating thing as a defender. I don't care about scoring goals, I'm bothered about clean sheets and we're not doing that. You have to go back to the basics and get a clean sheet. If we concede four goals at home we have to score five." Walker added.

Manchester City is ready to face Liverpool

Walker stated that City remains undeterred by the challenge of facing Liverpool, despite their current struggles. He emphasized that this situation would only serve to motivate the team to elevate their performance.

"We'll keep fighting to the end as we always do. The best way to turn this round is on Tuesday. Hopefully the mojo comes back and we see the normal City from the past eight seasons." Walker said.

"[Liverpool] is a great game to turn it around and take three points from the team who sit above you. But we can't put in a performance like that or we'll get walked over. We have a Champions League game to prepare for that massive game on Sunday and keep within touching distance of Liverpool." Walker asserted.
