This weekend, the Premier League welcomed another exciting round of matches, with Southampton facing off against Arne Slot's Liverpool at St. Mary's Stadium on Sunday. Both teams entered the match with different challenges this season, making it a crucial encounter for them.

Liverpool, currently leading the Premier League standings, had demonstrated impressive form throughout the season. Liverpool looked to maintain their momentum to retain their top position in the league.

Southampton had faced a challenging season and were positioned at the bottom of the league table. In their last match, they experienced a setback, losing 2-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers. However, this presented an opportunity for the Saints to regroup and put in a strong performance against the league leaders.

Liverpool took the lead

From the outset, the table toppers showcased their dominance. Within the first 30 minutes, Southampton's goalkeeper demonstrated remarkable skill, making five crucial saves to keep the match competitive.

Just when it appeared that McCarthy was invincible, a sudden downturn led to a goal. McCarthy rolled the ball out to Fernandes, who faced a challenge on the edge of the area. The ball deflected back to Downes, who mishit a nervous clearance directly at Szoboszlai. He confidently took a touch and curled a striking left-foot shot into the far corner.

Southampton equalised soon

In the 42nd minute, Dibbling won a penalty off Robertson's tackle right on the age of the box.

Armstrong’s penalty was saved by Kelleher, diving to his right, but the ball rebounded only for him to score at the second attempt.
