Lionel Messi booed by Vancouver crowd
Lionel Messi's presence drew a record attendance of over 50,000 at the BC Place stadium. However, the little man from Rosario failed to produce his usual magical performance in this fixture. The highest active free-kick scorer blundered two of his free kicks into the hands of the goalkeeper. Two of his other shots from open play went out of target.
Lionel Messi was even booed by Vancouver fans when he touched the ball. Lionel Messi's not visiting Vancouver from South Florida for a regular season fixture last year has been cited as the reason for such hatred.
Lionel Messi has been going through a tough time in recent times. The second-highest goal-scorer of all time has failed to find the net for his club in the last three consecutive matches. He last recorded goal contributions on April 9th when he helped his side beat Los Angeles FC in the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
Inter Miami is hopeful Lionel Messi gets back his Midas touch before the second leg fixture on April 30th. Before that fixture, Inter Miami will also host FC Dallas for a regular-season match on April 27th.
