Fenerbahce ultras are said to have attacked Manchester United supporters prior to their UEFA Europa League match in Turkey. Videos of the altercations were circulated following the attacks by a group allegedly connected to the GFB Bogaz Hooligans.
They bragged about the violent altercation, aimed at United supporters, on their Instagram account. According to them, the disturbance began when a United supporter and the thugs exchanged texts, with the Red Devils supporter allegedly challenging the group that carried out the crime.
A Manchester United fan told StrettyNews about the harrowing incident, describing how the thugs "swarmed" their five-person party close to the Grand Hisar Hotel in Istanbul. He informed the source that, "About 50 of them swarmed us (a group of five). One lad followed me down a street and pretended to help before hitting me with a shot in the jaw."
The hooligans also posted a different Instagram picture of themselves assembled on pavement, some of them on motorcycles, with the following caption, "On the first punch of a fight... Manchester is now truly RED :)."
Manchester United set to face Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce
United is in a vulnerable situation as they are ready to play Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce team in the UEFA Europa League. With just two points from prior league-phase games, the team is now in 21st place and is having difficulty finishing in the top eight, which would automatically qualify them for the knockout stages.
United will have to go through a two-leg play-off to advance in the competition if they place between ninth and twenty-fourth. The English Premier League side got a lot on the line in Istanbul, with growing crowd safety worries and looming on-field difficulties.
