Jose Mourinho, the former manager of Manchester United, has boldly stated that he would not give up on receiving a 2018 title-winning bonus due to Manchester City's protracted legal battle with the English Premier League. The 2017–18 season, Mourinho's last full season as manager at Old Trafford, saw Manchester United finish second to City.
Between 2009 and 2018, Manchester City, who have subsequently won four straight league titles, were alleged to have violated the Premier League's financial regulations. Manchester City rejects the 115 allegations and anticipates a decision by the beginning of 2025. The club may lose any trophies they earned during the relevant time frame if they are found guilty.
Before Thursday's Europa League match between Fenerbahce and Manchester United in Istanbul, Mourinho was questioned about his former squad. He jokingly brought up the legal issue with City, that is being handled by a separate disciplinary body with unrestricted authority to impose sanctions.
The Fenerbahce manager said, "As you know, we won the Europa League [in 2017] and we finished second in the Premier League [in 2018]. I think we still have a chance to win that league because maybe they punish Man City with points and maybe we win that league and then they have to pay me the bonus and give me the medal."
“I wish the best to Man United” : Jose Mourinho
It took place during a 20-minute conversation that exemplified Mourinho's continued charm. Mourinho was able to bring up his own firing in December 2018 after nearly three seasons in command when he praised Manchester United for sticking with present manager Erik ten Hag throughout the current challenging time.
The former Chelsea head coach added, "I wish the best to Man United since the moment I left. I left with a good feeling to the club and with a good feeling to the fans. If things are not going amazingly well for them it's not something that makes me happy. It doesn't make sense for me to be thinking about what happened and what didn't happen.”
