Inter Miami kicked off their Major League Soccer season with a 2-2 draw against New York City FC at home, even while contending with a severely weakened squad after Tomas Aviles's red card. 

Under new leadership from Javier Mascherano, who has taken the helm from Gerardo Martino, the team experienced notable disorganisation despite several key additions to the roster.

With an inexperienced defence that included Noah Allen and Ian Fray, Miami had difficulty maintaining control throughout the match. Despite limited service to Messi and a disappointing performance from Luis Suarez, who was later substituted, the team continued to push forward.

Inter Miami skipper Lionel Messi showcased his playmaking skills as he racked up two assists for the Herons at the Chase stadium in Miami. He rescued the team from a difficult situation but lost his cool in the process.

The Argentinian star played a pivotal role in establishing an early advantage for his team, assisting Tomas Aviles with a well-placed tap-in just five minutes into the game. This goal came after a clever one-two exchange with Jordi Alba at the edge of the box.

After the game, Messi was clearly frustrated, engaging in a heated altercation with the referee that resulted in a yellow card as he made his way to the tunnel.

Messi expressed his frustration not only with the referee but also with the opposing coach, gripping him by the neck as he clearly expressed his dissatisfaction with the situation. A video surfaced on social media that caught the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner in a heated confrontation with the coach and referee.
