The 2024-25 edition of La Liga resumed with a crucial round of matches this weekend, featuring Sevilla's clash with Hansi Flick's Barcelona at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Sunday. Barcelona arrived occupying third place in the La Liga standings and was fairly inconsistent throughout the season. On the other corner, Sevilla sat in 12th place.

The match got off to a flying start as the Catalans seized the lead almost immediately. In the eighth minute, Robert Lewandowski netted the opening goal of the fixture. Barcelona executed a short corner directed towards Raphinha, whose lofted cross was deftly finished by the Polish striker.

With this goal, Robert Lewandowski became the first player since Lionel Messi in the 2019/20 season to score 19 or more goals in his first 22 matches of a La Liga season, both while playing for FC Barcelona.

The lead was short-lived as Sevilla quickly equalised just a minute later. Ruben Vargas levelled the score almost immediately from the restart, beating the offside trap to tap in Saul's precise delivery from the right flank.

The visitors faced another setback when Ronaldo Araujo had to be substituted by Pau Cubarsi due to an injury from an earlier challenge by Saul.

Fermin Lopez came off the bench on a role, restoring Barcelona's lead with a stunning header just a minute after his arrival. Pedri delivered the perfect ball to him, whose downward header bounced off the turf and left Nyland with no chance.

Then, in the 55th minute, Raphinha displayed exceptional footwork to control Lewandowski's pass before unleashing a powerful right-footed strike into the bottom corner, marking his 13th goal of the season. In the 62nd minute, the goal-scorer Fermin Lopez was given his marching orders after a careless tackle to Sevilla's Sow. Barcelona had to see off the rest of the fixture with 10 men and so did the team. They even managed to bag a fourth goal as Eric Garcia scored in the 89th minute. Barcelona beat Sevilla 4-1.
