Valencia approached the game aiming to improve their position in the standings, currently sitting in 19th place. Meanwhile, Barcelona, holding strong in third place, looked to regain their consistency after a few mixed performances recently.

Barcelona found themselves in a peculiar position in La Liga, having nearly eliminated themselves from the title race this season. A victory in this fixture was essential for them to remain contenders for the league.

Conversely, Valencia faced their own critical battle, as another defeat would push them further towards relegation.

Barcelona created a goal galore

Barcelona got off to a flying start at Montjuic, breaking the deadlock in less than three minutes.

Yamal executed a fantastic run, manoeuvring past his marker before delivering a cross to De Jong, who controlled it expertly and sent the ball into the net.

In the 9th minute, Ferran Torres added his name to the scoresheet against his former club, brilliantly finishing a cross from Balde with a well-timed first touch.

Just five minutes later, skipper Raphinha joined the scoring spree. He netted a stunning goal after a beautiful back-heel pass from Yamal reached Lopez. Lopez then delivered a precise ball over the top to Raphinha, who foxed the goalkeeper to secure his 12th goal of the season.

In the 24th minute, Fermin Lopez scored his first goal of the match. He made a great run through the visiting defence to connect with a long ball. Although the linesman initially raised his flag, Lopez was onside, and VAR confirmed that the goal would stand. Lopez scored his second off a rebound in the injury time of the first half to give Barcelona a mammoth 5-0 lead.

Robert Lewandowski netted Barcelona’s sixth goal of the night. The experienced striker was played into the box by Lopez before taking a touch and nailing home the ball from a tricky angle.

Problems continued to mount for the visitors as they conceded an own goal to add to their adversities in the 78th minute. Barcelona defeated Valencia 7-1. Hansi Flick's side has now scored 100 goals in 32 games this season.
