Another week of La Liga continued to unfold with an important round of matches this weekend, featuring Sevilla's clash with Hansi Flick's Barcelona at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Sunday. Barcelona entered the match positioned in third place in the La Liga standings. Meanwhile, Sevilla, sitting in 12th place, wanted to make their presence felt.
Barcelona had displayed their potential under Hansi Flick, but they were required to resolve their defensive issues before this match. Lamine Yamal had proven to be a standout performer for the Catalans this season. On the other hand, Sevilla's poor form couldn't continue if they hoped to compete in this fixture; they needed to bring their best performance to the game.
Ronald Araujo's injury became the centre of attention
The match was off to a flying start as the Catalans quickly established their dominance. In just the eighth minute, Robert Lewandowski found the back of the net, scoring the opening goal of the fixture. Barcelona executed a well-planned short corner directed towards Raphinha, whose expertly lofted ball was converted by the Polish striker.
With this goal, Robert Lewandowski made history by becoming the first player to score 19 or more goals in his first 22 La Liga games since Lionel Messi achieved the same feat during the 2019/20 season.
However, the lead was short-lived as Sevilla equalised just a minute later. Ruben Vargas levelled the score almost immediately from the restart, capitalising on a well-timed delivery from Saul on the right flank.
The visitors faced another setback when Ronald Araujo had to leave the match due to injury, a consequence of an earlier challenge by Saul. Pau Cubarsi came on to replace him. Araujo took his place on the bench and was observed using an ice pack on his ankle for the remainder of the first half.

While the severity of the injury is still unknown, it is undoubtedly a setback for Araujo. Having only recently regained full fitness after an absence at the start of the season, he now faces the possibility of additional time away from the pitch.

The first half ended with both teams sitting at a 1-1 scoreline. Barçelona's defence is expected to be put to the test in the absence of Arajuo.
