Curtis Jones vs Newcastle United

Against Newcastle United, Liverpool's first of two equalizers came as a complete surprise. It appeared to be a beautiful finish as Mohamed Salah broke down the right and Jones cushioned his outside-of-the-foot ball into the net to make it 1-1.

Alexander Isak had to face Virgil van Dijk one-on-one when Bruno Guimaraes threaded a pass to him outside the area earlier in the game. Instead of facing the Dutchman, he decided to shoot on goal from just beyond the area. It seems to have caught Caoimhin Kelleher off guard as it flew with such velocity into the very top of the net. After the equaliser, Gordon restored the lead for the hosts but Mohamed Salah got the leveller sooner rather than later.

Should Virgil van Dijk have received a red card against Newcastle United?

While wasting a huge opportunity for Newcastle United, Anthony Gordon got shoulder barged from the ball through Virgil van Dijk, sparking a controversy over whether it was a foul when VAR ruled it not to be. After the Dutch defender body-checked Anthony Gordon of Newcastle, Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk sent him clutching his face in agony.

Newcastle United, who had only just grabbed the lead when Alexander Isak put the home team ahead, was putting a lot of pressure on the Reds. Gordon was then given a great opportunity when defender Joe Gomez scuffed a back ball and made a costly mistake.

After aiming directly at Liverpool goalie Caoimhin Kelleher, the former Everton player was caught off guard by Van Dijk's quick entry. Anthony Gordon fell down clutching his face as play went on, and Liverpool kept possession while the home crowd jeered.

After reviewing the situation, VAR declared Virgil van Dijk free of any wrongdoing in the conversation. On social media, non-Liverpool supporters feel that Virgil van Dijk ought to have been disciplined, and Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe was incensed on the sidelines.
