Premier League leaders Liverpool are in action against Leicester City in the late Boxing Day kick-off this evening in an attempt to increase their advantage. With a fantastic effort, Arne Slot's team defeated Tottenham 6-3 in their last game, increasing their advantage to four points.

They are now taking on Leicester City, who have been in poor form lately after losing to Wolves 3-0 last Saturday, which was also the fourth game for Ruud van Nistelrooy as manager. Before a stretch of games that also includes matches against Manchester City and Aston Villa, the Foxes are in 17th position, only two points above the relegation spots.

Arne Slot's Reds aim to extend their advantage at the top of the league to seven points, with Liverpool and Leicester locking horns at Anfield. After an unusual start on Merseyside, the Foxes take an early lead courtesy of Andre Ayew's close-range strike in the seventh minute.

On a foggy Anfield pitch, Leicester had looked more dangerous compared to Liverpool in the first 20 minutes as they attempted to strike the Reds on the break. However, Liverpool has established a better rhythm since then as they attempt to catch up.

Cody Gakpos curled his shot past Leicester goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk just before halftime to score his tenth goal of the season. Salah had hit the bar minutes before extra time before halfway, but Cody Gakpo curled his shot into the top corner to level the score at 1-1 shortly before halftime.

Liverpool on a winning run

In all competitions, Liverpool has won 21 straight games. This is their longest stretch without a loss since a 25-game run from April to November 2021, and their longest run in a single season since a 24-game run from January to May 1989.
