Athletic Bilbao hosted Viktoria Plzen at the San Mamés Stadium this Thursday in the league phase of the UEFA Europa League. Meanwhile, Viktoria Plzen, with three wins under their belt, were working hard to improve their standing, which stood at 11th place.

Atletico Bilbao recently faced setbacks, losing three of their last five matches, which included their first defeat in the Europa League last week. However, it’s important to note that they have only lost one of their last 12 home games across all competitions.

On the other hand, Viktoria Plzen has been in excellent form, winning eight of their last 10 games with only one loss. They've consistently scored twice in every match, while Bilbao remained impenetrable at home, having yet to concede a goal.

'Williams' brothers give Bilbao the lead

Iñaki Williams initiated an attack down the right wing, showing his abilities as an adept playmaker. He effectively linked up with his brother, Nico Williams, who then received a well-placed pass.

Nico showcased his finishing skills with a precise left-footed shot from close range, finding the top left corner of the net to give Bilbao a much-deserved lead in the 25th minute during the first half.

In the 64th minute, Bilbao doubled their lead as Yeray Álvarez delivered a powerful header from very close range into the top right corner. The goal was assisted by Alex Berenguer, who provided a precise cross following a set-piece situation.

However, the visitors dragged one bag in the 71st minute with Havel finding the back of the net. This happened to set the exciting last 20 minutes of the fixture.
