The Premier League made an exciting return this weekend, featuring a key matchup between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Mikel Arteta's Arsenal at Molineux Stadium on Saturday.
Wolverhampton Wanderers came into the match positioned in 17th place in the Premier League standings. Arsenal, on the other side, sat comfortably in second place in the table and had stepped up their game this season.
Wolverhampton Wanderers needed to give everything they had got this weekend to secure a crucial win, as another loss was sure to drive them closer to relegation.
The Tale of the Fixture
The hosts displayed remarkable resilience, defending solidly from the outset. In stark contrast, Arsenal’s attacking efforts were erratic, managing a mere six shots throughout the entire first half.
Wolves nearly faced disaster in the 43rd minute due to a corner and a pivotal decision on a red card.
A few minutes before, the ball was fed to Matt Doherty just five yards outside the box. As he advanced, the young Lewis-Skelly made a reckless challenge, catching Doherty high on the leg.
The immediate issuance of a red card took everyone inside Molineux by surprise, but referee Michael Oliver deemed the challenge high and dangerous and gave the player his marching orders.
Lewis-Skelly is a young 18-year-old left-back and midfielder for the Gunners. He was playing his first Premier League game of his career and it ended in a rather disappointing manner with a red card.

Arsenal needed a win to keep their place among the top 2 teams in the Premier League standings. A draw or a loss was only going to increase the gulf between them and table-toppers Liverpool.
At the time, the 10-man Arsenal were locked at a 0-0 scoreline with the Wolves. In the second half, Wolves' Gomez received a red card for a nasty tackle. Just a few minutes later, Riccardo Calafiori gave the gunners an important lead, connecting a solid shot on a volley beating the Wolves goalkeeper. Arsenal held onto their lead to win the fixture 1-0 at the time of the game's final whistle.
