During Sunday night's exciting 2-2 tie between Liverpool and Manchester United, footage has surfaced showing the roof of Anfield pouring over one stand. The Premier League leaders were unable to extend their lead at the top to eight points after Amad Diallo's late goal forced them to accept a piece of the action. Early in the second half, Lisandro Martinez gave United an unexpected lead, but the Reds quickly responded. Thanks to goals from Cody Gakpo on the hour mark and Mohamed Salah after Matthijs de Ligt was given a penalty for handball.

After tapping in Alejandro Garnacho's cross, Diallo gave the visitors a last sting in the tail, earning a point that will boost Ruben Amorim's confidence. Videos on social media reveal that the venue eventually suffered damage from the harsh weather, which resulted in sheets of freezing rain during the fight. According to one video on X, home fans appeared to be the ones who were most affected when many leaks came tumbling down from the top of the Anfield Road Stand.

Watch the video here:

The leak originated in the area above United's traveling team, which was gathered in the lower division. In another video posted on X, a group of Red Devils fans enjoyed slyly singing "Anfield's falling down." The Met Office said that the conditions would "probably lead to disruption to transport and some other services" and issued an amber warning for Merseyside. After meeting twice on Sunday morning, however, the city's Ground Safety Advisory Group finally agreed to proceed with the game despite the possibility of ice.

Manchester United's home stadium Old Trafford experienced the same

Throughout the game, the snow ultimately turned to pounding rain, and numerous sizable puddles were seen all over the ground, including in the press area. Early in 2024, the Anfield Road Stand underwent renovations at an estimated cost of 100 million euros, increasing the stadium's total capacity to 61,276. Naturally, United has experienced long-lasting leaks of their own, with the tumbledown condition of Old Trafford being seen multiple times during storms. Water ran down the stands of the 114-year-old stadium during a violent thunderstorm that occurred during United's 1-0 loss to Arsenal last season.
