Following their thrilling victory over Brazil in today's highly anticipated Paris Olympics 2024 final match in Paris, the USA women's soccer team is once again unstoppable. Mallory Swanson's goal during the 57th minute, during her 100th game for the USA, separated the two rival teams.

Brazil had the better early opportunities, but the USA came into the game undefeated. During the second minute, Ludmila found herself alone close to the goal, but her shot flew straight into the hands of goalie Alyssa Naeher. Ludmila looked to have scored for Brazil in the sixteenth minute, but the goal was subsequently disqualified for offside. During stoppage time, Naeher's heroics kept the game alive by stopping Adriana's header with one hand.

More suffering for Brazil including its well-known star, Marta, is foreshadowed by this setback. The six-time world player of the year, who made her retirement from the Games early this year known, has never taken home an Olympic or Women's World Cup trophy. The 38-year-old made his Olympic debut during the 2004 Games in Athens, Greece, 20 years ago.

In order to reach the final match, the two teams had to navigate a tough group of opponents. A total of twelve countries have qualified for the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Earlier this week, in semifinal matchups, the United States and Brazil emerged victorious, defeating Germany and Spain, respectively.

USA create history as they clinch fifth gold medal in women’s soccer

With five gold medals, the American women's team has become the best in the Olympics. The most recent occasion when the American women's team won gold was in London during the 2012 Olympics.  Among the attendees at Parc des Princes were Tom Cruise, Megan Rapinoe, a former American celebrity, and Sue Bird, a former NBA player.

Canada won gold in Tokyo in 2021, while Germany triumphed in the women's finals in Rio in 2016.  In an Olympic final, it was America's third triumph over Brazil. In Athens in 2004 and Beijing four years later, the Americans likewise triumphed over the Brazilians.
