Carlo Ancelotti threatens Laliga
The defending La Liga champions, Real Madrid, showed impressive form as they defeated Villarreal in an important fixture just two days after knocking Atletico Madrid out of the UEFA Champions League. However, the fixture was marred with controversy as Galacticos manager Carlo Ancelotti expressed his frustration over the insensitive scheduling of the team's fixtures.
Los Blancos manager gave a stern warning in the post-match press conference to the schedule planners and higher management. He revealed that the team can even go up to the extent of skipping games if the problem is not resolved at the earliest.
Carlo Ancelotti warned Laliga
The manager revealed that the team played back-to-back matches without getting proper rest. He further warned that it won't be tolerated next time.
“This is the last time we played a game without 72 hours of rest…We will NOT show up and NOT play if it happens again…We asked La Liga to change the time of the game TWICE. But nothing,” Carlo Ancelotti said.
Real Madrid squared off against Villarreal in less than 72 hours after an important match against Atletico Madrid. According to Real Madrid TV, the club had requested a postponement to March 16, but this request was turned down. Now, reports indicate that the club plans to seek relief from FIFA, arguing that only 67 hours had elapsed since Antonio Rudiger’s penalty that sealed their place in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
Despite not getting proper rest time, Real Madrid managed to win their Laliga fixture and moved to the top of the league standings with 60 points. Even with the absence of a bunch of key players like Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, Dani Ceballos and Ferland Mendy, the club continues to rise past adversities.
