Monaco emerged as the underdog darlings of Europe in the 2003/04 season, showing a carefree attacking style that has resulted in thrilling matches for neutral fans. This is not the first time that Monaco has captured the hearts of football enthusiasts. In the 2003/2004 Champions League, Monaco's carefree attacking approach led to a prolific goal-scoring spree. Moreover, the 03/04 team defied financial challenges that had jeopardized their position in Ligue 1.

Monaco's remarkable journey to the group stages of the 2002/2003 Ligue 1 was defined by their unwavering determination and exceptional performance. Despite facing formidable opponents, they secured their spot by finishing second, trailing champions Lyon by just a single point. Their revengeful victory over Deportivo, with a commanding 8-3 score, showcased their undeniable dominance, becoming the first side to score 8 goals in the modern Champions League in a single game.

Dado Prso's instrumental four-goal performance in this triumph was a testament to the power of perseverance and skill. This extraordinary feat stood as the highest-scoring game in the competition's history until Dortmund's 8-4 victory over Legia Warsaw in the 2023-24 season ( which is next on the list).

2) Dortmund Asserts Dominance Borussia Dortmund vs Legia Warzawa (8:4)

The remarkable group game saw a 5-2 scoreline after just 32 minutes, including a burst of three goals in four minutes. The match ended with a record-breaking 8-4 win for the German side.

In a spectacular display, Borussia Dortmund secured an 8-4 victory against Legia Warszawa, with Shinji Kagawa's quickfire double turning the game around after Aleksandar Prijović gave Legia a tenth-minute lead. The match ended with three goals in the closing ten minutes, sealing a memorable win for Dortmund. Hence they emerged as only the second team ever to score 8 goals in a single match in the competition history.

Bayern Munich  kicked off their 2024 Champions League campaign with a resounding 9-2 triumph over Zagreb, making history as the first team to score nine goals in a single Champions League match.

This remarkable feat harks back to over 40 years ago when Bayern achieved a similar result with a 10-0 victory over Anorthosis Famagusta in the 1983/84 UEFA Cup season. The 9-2 scoreline also stands as the second-highest in the history of the competition, cementing Bayern's dominance in the Champions League.

English Number Nine, Harry Kane took centre stage while decimating the club from Croatia, scoring a record 4 goals for the first time in his Champions League career. Others to join the scoring fest included - Guerreiro, Leroy Sane, Goretzka and Olise who found the net twice.

The club from Croatia also managed to net the ball twice, thanks to Petkovic and Ogiwara, who scored in the 48th and 50th minutes respectively.
