Liverpool, sitting at the top of the Premier League standings, produced an outstanding run of form throughout the season. However, they entered this match on the heels of an unexpected defeat in the fourth round of the FA Cup. Compounding their issues, Arsenal’s key striker, Kai Havertz, had been sidelined due to an ACL injury. Everton were playing for their survival as they sat in 15th place in the table.

Merseyside Mayhem ends in a draw

The Reds dominated possession in the first 10 minutes but were unable to convert that control into any meaningful goal-scoring opportunities. The deadlock was unexpectedly shattered by Everton in the eleventh minute.

Branthwaite seized the moment and delivered a perfectly executed through ball that bypassed Liverpool's high line. Beto sprinted onto it, took a touch, and confidently poked the ball past Alisson into the corner.

Beto executed Le Bron's "Silencer" celebration after the goal was scored. Liverpool showed their resilience as Mac Allister directed the ball wide to Salah, who delivered an exceptional cross perfectly timed for the Argentinian run. With no defenders to disrupt him, Mac Allister deftly flicked the ball into the far corner to land the equaliser in the 16th minute.

In the second half, Liverpool stamped their authority to the pitch, creating numerous opportunities and putting pressure on Everton's defence.

Although, Everton had been the more assertive team in search of a goal, it was Liverpool who found the breakthrough in the 73rd minute. Luis Diaz delivered a well-placed cross, which was initially intercepted by Tarkowski. However, Curtis Jones reacted swiftly to the rebound, sending the ball across the goal. Although O’Brien attempted to clear it, the ball fell into the path of Mohamed Salah, who finished at the far post. Everton tried to make their way back into the game, and they finally succeeded in the last minutes of injury time as Tarkowski scored the equaliser.

Just before the final whistle, chaos erupted among the players from both teams. An intense brawl ignited as Curtis Jones confronted Abdoulaye Doucouré for celebrating provocatively in front of the away fans.

Both Doucouré and Curtis Jones received second yellow cards for their altercation, and manager Arne Slot was issued a red card after he stepped onto the pitch to confront Michael Oliver.
