AFC Bournemouth vs Manchester City

At the Vitality Stadium, AFC Bournemouth defeated the reigning champions 2-1, snapping their 32-game winning streak, thanks in part to goals from Antoine Semenyo and Evanilson. It was their first-ever league victory over Manchester City. After defeating Arsenal the previous time out, the hosts improved their giant-killing abilities by winning three straight at home.

Before Evanilson extended Bournemouth's lead following the restart, Semenyo gave them the lead within ten minutes by turning to shoot in towards the far post from the center of the box. On minute eighty-two, Josko Gvardiol cut the deficit with a header near the back post, setting up a thrilling climax in which Mark Travers spectacularly denied Erling Haaland, but Bournemouth stood firm for a historic victory.

With just four of City's shots on goal throughout the game compared to six for Bournemouth, Pep Guardiola's team endured a less than ideal afternoon. The fact that Erling Haaland's attempt on goal during the 80th minute was stopped by Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers makes it much more damaging.

With just 13 players fit following Wednesday's Carabao Cup loss to Tottenham Hotspur, Pep Guardiola is making publicly known of his team's long injury list. With players including Haaland, Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva, Ederson, Ilkay Gundogan, and Kyle Walker among them, the Spaniard managed to produce a very formidable starting eleven against Bournemouth in spite of those injury concerns. The Citizens suffered their first Premier League loss since December 6, 2023, as it just wasn't working for them.

Arsenal drop vital points away from home

Earlier in the day, Arsenal lost 1-0 to Newcastle United for the second consecutive year on Saturday, extending their losing streak to three Premier League games. Eddie Howe's club ended a five-game league losing streak with an early header from Alexander Isak, and the home team easily shut off Arsenal's faltering effort the remainder of the way.

Isak found space between Arsenal center-backs William Saliba and Gabriel and slotted home a precise cross by Anthony Gordon in the 12th minute as Newcastle, fresh off a morale-boosting victory over Chelsea in the League Cup on midweek, maintained that enthusiasm into the game.
