Midway during the first half, Rodri appeared to have twisted his knee in a collision with Thomas Partey, necessitating his substitution. The setback marred an otherwise excellent game for Guardiola, who watched his team beat their championship rivals by a late equaliser from John Stones.

The record of Rodri's value to Manchester City is extensive. The 28-year-old missed three of the team's four matches in the Premier League last season, and no one besides in Guardiola's lineup can match his skills. Hence, the City manager will be hoping beyond hope that Rodri's injury isn't as serious as initially thought, even though his headshake as he departed the pitch wasn't encouraging.

Pep Guardiola spoke after the game to the reporters and he said, "I don't know, I didn't speak to the doctor. [But] Rodri is strong. He leaves the pitch in this action because he felt something, otherwise Rodri stays there. He's the best holding midfielder in the world, He is a potential Ballon d'Or winner, I would love for him to win."

“We’ll not go to talk to the referee” : Pep Guardiola

A fiery Pep Guardiola spoke about the controversial Riccardo Calafiori goal. Kyle Walker was out of position as he was speaking to the referee and that led to the goal. He said, “Next time, we’ll not go to talk to the referee. Kyle Walker was just right. The referee asked him to come to talk to him and the other ones, and when that happens some players have to be close to the ball, and we have to readjust the back-four, but they didn't have time”.

The former Bayern Munich manager added, “But Kyle arrived in the position, and after Calafiori made a good goal. But we knew that always every free-kick that they contact quick with the wingers and they are really good with Saka and Martinelli, and I don't like the back-four when it's a foul and they move on. When the referee says: Come to talk to me… at least leave him to come back to the position. Because next time, we will not go to talk to them”
