The Panathinaikos player Baldock was discovered deceased on Wednesday at his south of Athens residence. His age was 31. His old team, Sheffield United, has put up a heartfelt homage to their former player.

Baldock was discovered in the pool area of his Greek property, according to a number of accounts. His wife informed the villa's owner that she had been unsuccessful to get in touch with him. After they located Baldock, they alerted the authorities. Despite the police's best efforts, it was determined that he had passed away. The cause of death is not known to the public.

Sheffield United posted a statement on social media as they said, "Sheffield United Football Club is shocked and extremely saddened to learn of the passing of former player, George Baldock.”

The EFL Championship club added that, "The defender left the club in the summer after seven years at Bramall Lane and was extremely popular with supporters, staff and team-mates who pulled on a red and white shirt alongside him. The sincere condolences of everyone associated with Sheffield United are extended to George’s family and friends."

After playing alongside Baldock for Sheffield United, Harry Maguire, a defender for Manchester United, paid tribute on Instagram by writing "RIP" along with a broken heart emoji.

George Baldock and his footballing career

Following a seven-year tenure at Sheffield United, who was demoted from the English Premier League into the Championship the previous season, Baldock joined Panathinaikos in May. Baldock played 75 minutes for Panathinaikos in a Greek Super League encounter on Sunday that ended in a 0-0 tie with Olympiacos.

The defender, whose father was from Greece, was called up to the Greek national team in 2022.  ERT stated that despite having 12 caps, he was not chosen for the team's Thursday Nations League encounter at Wembley versus England due to an injury.
