The manager of the French football team, Didier Deschamps, acknowledged that Kylian Mbappe is currently navigating both physical and psychological challenges as he confronts various situations with France and Real Madrid. The World Cup-winning forward seemed to be in a promising position over the summer when he finalized his highly-anticipated transfer to Santiago Bernabeu, joining the ranks of the latest Galactico for the La Liga giants.
However, several months later, there has been a noticeable change in Mbappe's mood, bringing his struggles to the forefront. Time has presented some challenges for the 25-year-old in Spain, as he has scored just one goal in his last seven appearances for Real Madrid. Additionally, Mbappe has not found the back of the net at the international level since June and has been absent from Deschamps' last two squad selections.
Deschamps informs about Mbappe's psychological slump
In a recent interview with TF1 following a 0-0 draw with Israel, France's head coach addressed Mbappe's situation. He acknowledged that the player is experiencing a tough phase in his career, but emphasized that every athlete goes through ups and downs.
“It's a fact that he is in a difficult situation. Obviously, he is going through a period which is not the happiest of his career.” Deschamps said. Deschamps understood his key forward's desire to participate in the Nations League. However, he believes it may be beneficial for him not to be selected now.
“He wanted to come. I think it's better for him [not to be selected] at the moment. Everybody can go through a difficult period. There is a physical element and a psychological one.” Deschamps added.
Mbappe has already netted 48 goals for France in 86 appearances and is on track to become the country’s all-time leading scorer. Right now, however, he is laser-focused on reigniting his form for Real Madrid, who will return to domestic action against Leganes on November 24.
