French Gaffer Didier Deschamps reveals reason for omission of Mbappe from the national side

The surprising omission of Kylian Mbappe from the latest France squad has raised questions, but the reason behind it has been revealed. Kylian Mbappe had a promising start at Bernabeu, netting seven goals in 10 matches across all competitions. Although he missed the Madrid derby due to a thigh injury, he made a second-half appearance in Wednesday's unexpected Champions League loss to Lille. Despite being ready for selection, Mbappe has decided not to join the French national team following a discussion with coach Didier Deschamps.

Gaffer Reveals the Reason for Mbappe's Omission 

Deschamps emphasized that despite Mbappe's recovery from injury, he is not willing to take any unnecessary risks. He has made the decision to leave his star player at home to ensure a full recovery, especially with important matches on the horizon. Additionally, Deschamps will no longer be able to rely on Antoine Griezmann for goals in Mbappe's absence, as the forward declared his international retirement earlier this week.

'I had an exchange with Kylian. He has a problem which is not serious,' Deschamps told reporters in Paris. 'I am not going to take risks, which is why he is not in the squad,' he added.

The 33-year-old was a consistent presence at Euro 2024 and has recently announced his retirement from international duty after making 137 appearances for the national team.

Deschamps lauded, the World Cup and Nations League winner, Griezmann's significant impact, emphasizing that his absence will necessitate a shift in the team's playing style. The manager stressed that while he is not planning to overhaul the system, adjustments will be made to accommodate Griezmann's absence.
