Brazil has been without their star magician since October 2023, following a serious injury that involved damage to his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus in his left knee. Initially, the 33-year-old forward was included in Dorival's squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina, but he has since been removed from the final lineup due a thigh injury.

Neymar's emotional message to his followers

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) officially announced that Neymar, Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson, and Flamengo’s Danilo would not participate in the upcoming international matches. Following the announcement, Neymar shared his thoughts on social media, expressing his disappointment about not being able to don Brazil’s iconic yellow jersey again after a break of nearly 18 months.

Neymar expressed his emotions to his followers on Instagram, describing Brazil's jersey as the 'heaviest shirt in the world'. He revealed that he was involved in long talks with the management, and both parties mutually decided not to risk his injury.

"It looked so close around but unfortunately I can't fit into the heaviest shirt in the world right now! Appreciate those who have sent messages of support. We had long conversations and everyone knows the desire that I was going to come back but we reached a consensus and decided not to take the risk and be able to prepare better to completely zero the injury!" Neymar wrote on his Instagram story.

Neymar was replaced by Los Blancos's young striker Endrick. Brazil is set to face Columbia in the first of their qualifying fixtures followed by a clash against arch-rivals and World Champions Argentina.
