Earlier, just two days ago, Jose's club, Fenerbahce, squared off against Celtic Rangers at Glasgow in the second leg of the round of 16 clash. Fenerbahce headed into the fixture with a two-goal deficit.
Fenerbahce won the away fixture at Ibrox 2-0. As the aggregate score read 3-3, both sides headed for penalties.
However, the visitors failed to shoulder the pressure during the shootout as three of their players, Dusan Tadic, Fred, and Mert Hakan Yandas, missed their chances from the spot in a dire situation.
In the post-match press conference, Fenerbahce manager Mourinho expressed his concerns regarding conspiracy surrounding his team, particularly highlighting that the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) did not identify one of three potential penalties during the match. While he acknowledged that this oversight could be coincidental, he remained firm in his belief that his team had faced injustices on the field.
"I hope everything that's happened to me in European competitions is not a consequence of the Budapest final, and I hope it's just random. Since that final, since my suspension, the things that happened to us - we didn't play Champions league because of a penalty on 120th minute penalty that only the fourth official saw," said Jose Mourinho.
"Today we come here, and the VAR is considered one of the best VARs. He didn't see one of the three penalties. I just hope it's random. I paid for the suspension, and I hope that it's over. I pray that this is just bad luck," he added
