Neymar will need some more time before he can don the Brazil jersey again, as he has been withdrawn from the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Although the 33-year-old was unexpectedly called up for these internationals earlier this month, recent reports from Globo indicate that he is currently dealing with a thigh injury.

Hence the prince of Brazilian football is not at one hundred per cent and needs to wait for his much-anticipated return. Neymar has been in fine form since returning to his boyhood club, Santos, earlier this year. The former Barcelona star has netted a total of three goals and three assists in just seven appearances.

The goals include an Olympic corner and a free kick from a tight angle. Since his return to Brazil, he has been touted with a move that could land him back in Europe. However, his return to national colours is on hold for now.

Neymar Junior scrapped from Brazil's squad for the upcoming international fixtures

The report reveals that in addition to Neymar, Flamengo right-back Danilo, and Manchester City goalkeeper Éderson have also been removed from the squad. Consequently, Real Madrid's striker Endrick, Flamengo full-back Alex Sandro, and Lyon's Lucas Perri have been added to the team.

Although Santos FC's management disregarded Neymar's injury as a serious one, the national selectors appear to be wary of his fitness. Brazil will clash against Columbia and Argentina in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers that are scheduled to be played on March 21 and 26, respectively. Neymar is Brazil's all-time highest goal scorer with 79 goals in 128 appearances. His last international fixture was way back in October 2023.
