Alexander Isak is quickly establishing himself as one of the most sought-after talents in European football. Newcastle United is committed to keeping him, setting a record price tag of over £150 million for the Swedish international. The Magpies bought Isak from Real Sociedad in 2022 for a record amount of £63m.
Last summer, when interest in Isak surged, Newcastle effectively deterred potential suitors like Chelsea by quoting this significant fee. With 3½ years remaining on his current contract, which the club may consider extending after the season, Newcastle is unlikely to adjust this valuation.
The current world record for a football transfer stands at Neymar’s mammoth £198 million move from Barcelona to Paris St-Germain. In the Premier League, Chelsea set a significant milestone with their £106 million acquisition of midfielder Enzo Fernandez from Benfica.
Newcastle to renew Isak's contract soon
Regarding Newcastle, the club is keen on retaining Isak and recognizes that discussions about extending his contract will be necessary shortly, following the postponement of talks earlier this year.
Arsenal has consistently been linked with a strong interest in Alexander Isak, who boasts an impressive record of 42 goals in just 68 Premier League appearances. However, the Gunners would face some challenges in meeting the financial demands for his transfer.
Recently, PSG has emerged as the latest club monitoring Isak, and both Barcelona and Real Madrid are also expected to show serious interest. Should Liverpool fail to secure a new contract with Mohamed Salah, Isak is a likely candidate to step in as his replacement.
“He is calm, cool, he is what you see on the pitch,” said manager Eddie Howe. “He doesn’t get overly emotional, which for a striker is a great quality, because that coolness you see and calmness in front of goal is part of his personality. He seems to have an extra half a second when other players don’t. With Alex the beauty of his attitude is that he wants to improve. We give him information and he is responsive. He is not a closed shop," he added.
