According to The Telegraph, Kerr was present at Kingston Crown Court on Monday when the prosecutor informed the jury that two years prior, after a night out, she and her partner, US international midfielder Kristie Mewis, were in a taxi when the driver called the police to report that a woman in the vehicle was attempting to smash the rear window.

It was suggested that he pull up to the Twickenham Police Station and ask the cops for assistance. While heading toward the police station in a marked vehicle, two policemen noticed shattered glass around the taxi and Kerr attempting to squeeze out of the damaged rear window. The driver informed the police that he had called them because one of the women had become ill in his vehicle and was refusing to cover the costs.

Mewis and Sam Kerr, who have entered a not guilty plea after being charged with purposefully causing "racially aggravated harassment, alarm or distress to a police officer," told officers that they felt "kidnapped" and "held hostage" by the driver and smashed the window in an attempt to flee. Following 20 minutes of being "trapped" with the male taxi driver, Kerr, and Mewis, both women expressed fear and a "sense of emergency" on Monday.

PC Stephen Lovell, one of the policemen in the marked car, said Kerr and Mewis were verbally hostile when he attempted to explain the issue to them. Kerr was heard saying the following in body cam evidence shown to the court: "You guys are stupid and white. You guys are f*cking stupid and white. I'm looking you in the eyes, I'm looking you in the eyes, you guys are f*cking stupid, I'm f*cking over this sh*t."

Sam Kerr sidelined due to injury

Kerr was subsequently taken into custody for racially aggravated public order and criminal damage; however, she was released from custody for criminal damage after she agreed to pay for the damage. The Chelsea player denies that her remarks were offensive or abusive under the parameters of the offence, but she does not dispute the language she used. The trial is still ongoing, and Kerr is scheduled to testify on Tuesday. Since December 2023, Sam Kerr, who is the top goal scorer in Australia, hasn't played in any game for the country or club due to an ACL injury.
