Julen Lopetegui's appointment at West Ham United appears to have been a wise decision. This is a manager with Premier League expertise who wants to show what he can achieve with more resources. At West Ham, he discovers a club eager to adopt a new approach.

David Moyes has performed well during his second managerial tenure, most notably leading them to their second European title. However, there is a demand for an increased progressive style of play, and Lopetegui's record, notably in Spain, indicates that he can provide it.

His limited stint at Wolves implies he has become a known quantity, which appears to have worked against him in the minds of some fans, but it should not. His success in changing things around there demonstrated his motivating abilities and adaptability.

West Ham Technical director said after Julen Lopetegui’s announcement that, “We are very pleased to welcome Julen and his staff to our club. He was a stand-out candidate to become our head coach and I am personally delighted that we have chosen to work together.”

“We will try to put our stamp on the club” : Julen Lopetegui

Lopetegui is scheduled to be the manager of the Hammers' preseason tour to Florida in July, in which they will face Wolves and Crystal Palace.

Lopetegui spoke to West Ham TV as he said, “I feel very happy, first of all, to be able to be part of the future of this big Club. We will try to put our stamp on the club. I feel that we have a fantastic platform. I think the last few years have been very good years to have this base, of course, but my ambition as a coach is always to be better and better, to achieve more and bigger aims and to encourage and improve the players, the team, and to compete because football is about this – to compete. We are very ambitious about this.”
