There are many big players that are featuring in the Madrid Open but there is only one player from the Holy trinity in the tournament. The big three of the world have been ruling the game for a long time and have won many major trophies between them. Even in the Madrid Open these three players have quite a lot of titles to their name. However, with Roger Fedrer retired and Novak Djokovic focussing on Rome there is only one man out of the three in the tournament.

The man is the King of Clay Rafael Nadal himself. Nadal has been out of the game for a long time now, but still made a comeback in the Barcelona Open. The Spaniard is currently playing in Madrid and as usual has won the most titles in the tournament. The Barcelona Open might have not ended on a great note, but that does not mean that El Nino cannot win a title in the clay season, since he is one of the best players on the surface.

King of spain arrives

If anyone thought how high must tennis be regarded in Spain you have got your answer with Felipe VI arriving in the capital to see Nadal play his game against Alex de Minaur at the Manolo Santana. This shows the aura of Nadal as one of the iconic athletes in the country still travels around the world. There is no surprise to why such a great and royal figure of the Latin nation would be there to see the former world number 1 and 22 grand slam winner.

We also must not forget this is Nadal’s homeground and there is a lot of support for the Spaniard in this tournament. He is definitely one of the favourites to win the trophy despite not being one of the higher seeded players in the tournament. This was a great reception for Nadal in his homeground and he will still have his eye on the sixth title in Madrid and give the fans in Madrid what could possibly be his last hurrah at the venue.
