Michael Owen criticized Noussair Mazraoui for conceding a penalty during Manchester United's 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth, highlighting it as a pivotal moment in the match. The Red Devils struggled on their home ground, experiencing the second consecutive loss to the Cherries. Despite being down 1-0 at halftime after giving away a set-piece goal, they still had chances to stay competitive.
However, the situation changed when Mazraoui made a risky decision to slide in on Justin Kluivert, which led to the penalty for Bournemouth. A more cautious approach could have helped him manage the challenge better.
Owen critical of Manchester United's player
Owen has directed criticism towards the team's makeshift centre-half, asserting that United is not performing well. This defeat for United marks their third loss in four Premier League matches, following recent setbacks against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest. Consequently, they will spend Christmas Day in the bottom half of the table for the first time since 1989. Amorim did little to disguise the significance of the win and is acutely aware of the challenge that awaits him in Manchester, as boos echoed around Old Trafford after the latest setback.
"You’re being kind. A little rash? A little stupid more like. What on earth are you doing? Two players are waiting for him, he’s not going to score from there and he dives in." Owen said.
"They’re not a good team. Ruben Amorim needs to be watching that game and ensure these players that are not performing do not put on the shirt again. He needs to be that brutal and that ruthless." Owen added.
“It’s so much easier to pass on an idea when you’re winning and you’re scoring and you’re not conceding. But it’s also a great privilege to be here, so we have to continue now. Nothing bad lasts forever and nothing good lasts forever, so we have to continue again and be very strong in our ideas, especially in the bad moments. We will do it and try to win the next game.” Owen added.
