According to exclusive sources, the Red Devils are contemplating a potential transfer move for RB Leipzig's centre-forward Benjamin Sesko.
The Slovenian striker was linked with a move to the Gunners at the beginning of the summer transfer window. Despite the interest, Sesko opted to stay with Leipzig, believing that it would be beneficial for his personal development.
Sesko's choice to remain resulted in a substantial salary increase and the removal of a €65m (£55.3m, $70.8m) release clause from his contract. His new agreement includes a different release clause, along with a 'gentleman's agreement' with Leipzig that may enable him to depart the club in 2025.
Sesko's agents recently visited both Old Trafford and the Emirates. They have engaged in discussions with the club's representatives regarding the terms of a potential transfer.
According to sources from TEAMtalk, Sesko is adamant about securing guaranteed game time and the opportunity to be a consistent first-team player.
Bayern Munich is also showing strong interest in Sesko, but the player is hesitant to make the switch due to concerns about playing second fiddle to Harry Kane, who has been in top form since joining from Tottenham last summer.
Sesko rose to prominence during his breakout season with Red Bull Salzburg in 2021-22 and has drawn comparisons to Erling Haaland. The two players briefly played together on the Austrian side. Sesko shares similarities with the Manchester City superstar in terms of his imposing 6ft 5ins stature, powerful right-footed shot, and goal-scoring ability.
In the summer of 2023, he joined RB Leipzig for €24m (£20m). Although his debut Bundesliga season started solid but unspectacular, he found an incredible run of form towards the end of the campaign. Sesko scored in seven consecutive games, finishing the season with 18 goals and two assists in 42 appearances.
On the international stage, Sesko was Slovenia’s top scorer during the Euro 2024 qualifiers and played a crucial role in leading his nation to the last 16 of the tournament in Germany. Despite their efforts, Slovenia was unfortunately beaten on penalties by Germany.
