The third-round draw for the FA Cup was hosted at Old Trafford, the home of the reigning champions, Manchester United, on Monday evening. Ruben Amorim's team will face the record 14-time winners, Arsenal, in an exciting matchup at the Emirates.
Amid the anticipation, a dedicated Manchester United fan leveraged the occasion to voice against the club's ownership and its latest decisions.
Manchester United's ticket prices are in for some controversy
Manchester United has raised ticket prices for Old Trafford to a staggering £66 per game. They've also eliminated concessions for children and pensioners, prompting protests ahead of their 4-0 victory over Everton on Sunday. During the FA Cup draw coverage, BBC host Kelly Somers found herself surrounded by frustrated Man United fans, while the trophy was placed beside her.
While she was speaking to the camera, an individual raised their phone, displaying the message "£66 thieves." This person, who was identified as the one responsible for it, later shared on X that they were kicked out from the event for their actions.
"I got kicked out for this btw." he posted on X
Co-owners efforts to cut down costs
Man Utd's Supporters Trust has also expressed concerns regarding the recent decision to raise ticket prices. Since taking over football operations at Man United, co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has implemented a range of cost-cutting measures aimed at enhancing the club's financial stability.
These changes have included workforce reductions involving 250 employees, discontinuing Sir Alex Ferguson's ambassadorial salary of £2 million per year, and opting out of the annual Christmas party. Additionally, company credit cards and private chauffeur services have been eliminated, along with a reduction in expenses related to staff lunches, accommodations, extra tickets, and post-match gatherings.
