Manchester United set to face Arsenal in an epic FA Cup clash

The draws for the FA Cup third round have been officially announced. This round marks an exciting stage in the competition as it welcomes 44 clubs from the Premier League and Championship. They will join the 20 lower-league and non - league teams that successfully progressed from last weekend's second-round matches. 

The Gunner's face the Red Devils in Third round 

Defending champions Manchester United will face a stern task in the FA Cup third-round fixture, as they are set to visit the 14-time champions, the Gunners Arsenal. While some fans expressed their disappointment at the draw during the announcement at Old Trafford, this encounter presents a well-rounded opportunity for Manchester United to defend their title and slam down their critics after their recent victory over Manchester City, which marked their 13th FACup win in May.

The Gunners and Manchester United stand as the two most successful teams in FA Cup history. Throughout their storied rivalry, they faced off each other 16 times in the tournament, delivering some remarkable matches.

Arsenal boasts an impressive 14 FA Cup victories, firmly holding the record. Meanwhile, Manchester United is hot on their heels, having claimed their 13th title just last season. Despite Arsenal’s overall triumphs, they find themselves outmatched in one versus one against United.

In their 16 encounters in the competition, the Gunners have emerged victorious six times and drawn twice, with one of those draws resulting in a penalty shootout win for Arsenal in 2005. While their overall head-to-head record may not favour them, Arsenal holds a superior position in the FA Cup against United. They have eliminated the Red Devils from the tournament more times than any other team.

Other important fixtures in third round 

Current Premier League table toppers, Liverpool will face off against League Two side Accrington Stanley. Meanwhile, Manchester City is set to host Salford City, a club owned by the iconic 'Class of 92.' Additionally, non-league team Tamworth will take on Tottenham at home. Chelsea will go head to head against Morecambe and Newcastle will face Bromley. These third-round ties are scheduled to take place over the weekend of Saturday, 11 January.
