According to a source, Manchester United is now trying to recruit Manuel Ugarte of Paris Saint-Germain on a loan with a purchase commitment. Ugarte is the top target for the Red Devils as they want to add a new central midfielder before the transfer window closes. PSG's insistence on demanding €60 million (£51 million) has prevented talks between United and the French champions from progressing in recent weeks.
As per Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United intends to experiment with another 'formula' to get Ugarte without having to spend that much this summer. Ugarte will now be signed by United on a first-year loan, though with an optional buyback clause.
Although United has given consideration to three less expensive midfield players, one of them has already left this summer, and the other is expected to follow as the Premier League team keeps its attention on Manuel Ugarte. After spending more than £150 million this summer, they could try to see if PSG would accept a loan rather than a long-term agreement as they aim to add a fifth player within their means.

They have also discussed Sofyan Amrabat, who had a mixed loan experience at Old Trafford last year. The international player from Morocco, who is back at Fiorentina, would not fetch as much as Ugarte. PSG has shown interest in Jadon Sancho, who was left out of United's matchday lineup for Friday's match against Fulham; however, Luis Enrique just acquired a winger from Rennes named Desire Doue.
Despite adding four significant players thus far this transfer window, United has not yet improved their midfield options. Joshua Zirkzee, a striker, was the first player to leave, and Red Devils defenders Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui have since signed. Zirkzee scored the game's lone goal off the bench as United defeated Fulham 1-0 at home on Friday to get off to a winning start in the 2024–25 Premier League season.
