With seven goal involvements in just nine games this season, despite facing a brief setback from a hamstring injury, Pedro has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most exciting attacking talents over the past year.

Pedro's recent ascent has been impressive

Pedro has been a crucial element in Brighton’s impressive ascent, netting six goals in as many games during their Europa League campaign last year. His ability to compete with the elite is undeniable, which is why Liverpool’s interest in him is fully justified.

However, it’s not simply his talent that makes Pedro a compelling option; it’s the way he executes his skills on the pitch.

In Pedro’s game, it’s clear that he excels when he drops deeper to receive the ball, which enhances his ability to link up play effectively. This strategic movement allows teammates like Brighton’s Danny Welbeck and Kaoru Mitoma to exploit the open spaces, enabling them to challenge defenders more directly.

While both players share similar styles, Pedro seems to harness this approach with greater efficacy. He is currently averaging 3.69 progressive carries per 90 minutes this season, compared to Jota’s 2.36, and shows a strong capability in one-on-one situations.

Additionally, Pedro’s shot-creating chances surpass those of Jota, contributing to his higher expected assisted goals.

There’s no doubt that Jota doesn't need an immediate replacement, nor does he require one at all. However, he had difficulty finding his true form at the beginning of the season under Arne Slot.

On the other hand, Pedro posses the qualities that can elevate the team. He has the potential to exploit space for Mo Salah, demonstrates a relentless work ethic in defence, and, crucially, can contribute significantly to the goal tally himself.
