Liverpool kicked off their defence of the Carabao Cup as they faced West Ham United on Wednesday night. The team aims to replicate last season's success under new manager Arne Slot, who has taken over from Jurgen Klopp. Similarly, West Ham United has been looking to make a strong start in the competition under their new manager Julen Lopetegui.

It's been over 40 years since West Ham last won a domestic trophy, so both teams waited eagerly to make their mark in the Carabao Cup this season. In 2023, they emerged victorious in the Europa Conference League, fueling the fans' anticipation for further triumphs. However, their current challenge is formidable, having secured only one win in their first five Premier League matches this season.

Diego Jota equalized for Liverpool

After Quansah conceded a horrible own goal in the 21st minute, Liverpool kept most of the possession to get its way back into the match.

In the 25th minute, Jota played a beautiful through ball to Cody Gakpo in the left wing, who appeared offside by a touching distance. Gakpo got possession of the ball on the left far side of West Hams's goal and tried to give a pinpoint cross to Chiesa inside the box but Chiesa mistimed the volley Jota netted the ball from near the goal post.

The Tale Of the Fixture till Halftime

The first half at Anfield has been quite entertaining for neutral fans, providing a great opportunity to observe some of the home team's fringe players.

Federico Chiesa has shown a lot of promise with his performance, while Endo and Quansah have yet to make a strong impression on Arne Slot.

Jota, Nunez, and Gakpo have all performed well, and it seems like Jota and Nunez are competing for a starting position in the upcoming weekend match.

West Ham has mainly relied on counter-attacks and set-pieces, demonstrating their ability to be a threat in these situations.
